WOW! That was very thoughtful, thorough, and hard to argue against.
I guess the only point left is......It is very anoiying to see three or four Jack Sparrows at a convention, and when you mention Captain Roberts, people look at you funny. So I guess I'll disapprove Jack with the same reasoning as Captain Barbossa. You can't seem to get rid of him.
Aye, but that is the crutch of those who were interested as they say "before it were cool"
Educate! There are many a fascinating story... tell the Jack Sparrow clone about the legends of the Devil's Son Blackbeard... how he would launch into battle with burning cannon fuses in his beard, two cutlasses, and a brace of pistols. How when he died they say that his headless body swam around the ship three times before sinking to the deeps... about gibbets, Sir Francis Drake's treachery, and the conversion of Nassau....
There are plenty of stories of real pirates that are at least as interesting as the POTC movies, some even more so. Rather than disparaging Depp's OSCAR NOMINATED performance, bring enlightenment about the ways of men and women on the account and spark their interest. It was Flogging Molly's obsession with Black Bart that elevated my interest in pirates from idle fancy to a fully realized way of life. This prevalence of the movies is a GOOD THING.
And quit yer' whining ye scabs! You're BLOODY PIRATES! Take advantage of the situation and turn it to profit!
my question is if he was such a bad captain, why did he have so many wenchs and why did he have so many people devout/loyal to save him even when it was against "the code"?
I loved Jack Sparrow! Lacks common sense and sanity but all together an interesting character!
Two is not soo many, but I will admit that he was clever. He was just very annoying, like he wasn't right in the head.I would still crew under Barbossa.
