Anarchists , pirates did not believe in any form of governing authority. But anarchy with the basic belief in the rights of others and being responsible for ones own actions. Anarchy in it's most idealistic form, which seems to exist only in the minds of way too few.
They're Libertarians. Didn't ya read in Captain Johnson's "General History of the Pirates" about the pirate settlement of Libertalia. That's where the name comes from.
Aye, I did, but thats not to say ALL pirates were settled there, or followed that philosiphy...and Libertarians ain't what they used ta be. In our currert political climate, I still think they'd be Independants, if not revolutionarys!
It seems to me that a pirate would be a free spirited, adventurous type of person and perhaps even a thief, not one to be bothered with the responsibility of political entanglements. I think of Captain Sparrow and his shifting loyalties which made him adorable if not reliable. What does that say about us, who like to play at being pirates?
