The Arizona Corsair Network

Ahoy, Lads & Lasses,

The time be upon us to figure who be in, and who be missing!

Upon July 12-13 the collective group known as Rogue Privateers will be participatin' at Old Fort MacArthur Days. This be the largest timeline event in the entire USA, and for the 4th year we will be participatin'. The era depicted runs from Roman to modern. We have a great reputation in this, so you would be counted as the best o' the best!

We raid other encampments for booty that we auction off for the benifit o' the museum, and generally raise havoc! We have educational content and generally depict Living History. As such, I ask that ye must be totally authentic fer yer year, and be able to explain yerself to me and the public.

Capt Gato, ye be knowin' what I be askin', and I be honored if ye can make the excursion. The Lady Isobel will be helpin' in the administration o' this event.

If anyone else o' the Corsairs be interested, please contact me directly at DMBOTC@aol.com. Ye can question Capt. Gato or meself on the veracitity of this invite. Mark ye well, I have need of knowin' yer intentions in the next two week so ye be gate listed. Sign the articles and be ready fer a great time!

For those of us who be new, could ye explain a bit about Old Fort MacArthur Days, where it is, if there are fees to be paid, etc?

Thanks,

Aye, perhaps a bit o' history be appropriate.

I believe this is the 22nd year of Old Fort MacArthur Days. As stated, this will be the 4th year for pirates to participate. There were at least 75 groups signed up af of 3 weeks ago. It is held at the museum part of the old fort, overlooking Point Fermin and Catalina Island in San Pedro.

Battle demonstrations, old west shootouts, Roman gladiators, and all manner of reenactment groups are involved. Hopefull we will even have a bunch of cannons fired from all eras.

Here's a link to the event flyer:

The biggest issue with the event is authenticity. All groups are judged and the top group in each of 6 eras recieve an award. Most groups take this very seriously. We won the award in our first year of participation. It's definatly difficult and a lot of work and preparation go into it. Groups are judged from 9 AM Saturday until 4 PM on Sunday, and allowed only 1 hour of "down time" on Saturday night.

You can also find an article about last years' encampment in the latest issue of No Quarter Given Magazine.

Ok, so I looked at the website for this, sounds pretty cool... Would we be carpooling / carovanning as a group? Seems it would make sense. That would also help with buying food, planning meals, etc.

Would be considered particapants, or we the $10 cover too?

Capt. Aries asks a very good question, and the answer is a bit complex.

If you are gate listed, you are participants and the museum expects participants to pay $5 as opposed to just walking in at $10.

Rogue Privateers are NOT expected to pay the $5, because we have an elevated level of participation. I have an accord, and it involves participation. We "raid" for items that other groups/vendors donate that we then auction off. The proceeds are donated to the Museum. This year we will have a a silent auction for a Celtic broadsword on top of that, and other items are trickling in (possibly an aluminum combat sword worth $400).

Thus we are providing a lot of entertainment value, donating items, and a few of us do voluntarily donate monitarily to the museum. We also donate the black powder we will be firing. Oh, did I mention this is a shooting event?

We will also be doing cannon training, flintlock training, and those who want will be allowed to fire. (Cannon firing subject to the owner of the cannon choosing who he wants on the crew, and at this time we only have 1 tube)

Does this keep getting better? I can promise that this is the best event you will ever participate in, and once you do it, you will want to participate every year.
