The Arizona Corsair Network

Hallo to the crew. It's Jamaica Rose from No Quarter Given
magazine. I've lurked here for quite a while, and not said much, so
I guess it's time I gave a shout-out and said hello.

Plus now I have something to announce to the lot of ya. We are
helping our friend Robin St Graves get the word out about Pyrate Week
in New Orleans. Exciting plans are afoot. Check out the website:
www.pyrateweek.com for more details.

There will be areas for historical and not-so-historical camp sites.
It's lookin' like we will get to camp at the Chalmette Battlegrounds -
- site of the Battle of New Orleans.

No Quarter Given will be there. It would be great to meet up with
those of you that can make it to New Orleans next Spring.

Safe harbours and full tankards,
--Jamaica Rose

NOLA Pyrate Week
New Orleans, Louisiana
Mar. 28 - Apr.

5, 2009

Nine Days of Pyracy in the French Quarter & beyond!

Our Mission is to host a History making event. It is our goal to
bring thousands of Pyrates to New Orleans for nine days and nights of
celebrating the Spirit of Pyracy in the New Orleans French Quarter
and surrounding areas. Our intent is to have Pyrate Week participants
engage in "Acts of Pyracy" in the form of volunteering their time and
talents to the many volunteer programs in New Orleans.

All the while enjoying the hospitality, culture, charm, and
excitement of this great City!

Many local individuals, Krewes and business establishments of New
Orleans have expressed their desire, enthusiasm and eagerness to host
and be a part of such a history making event wherein they can show
off their beloved city and hospitality.

As "Pyrates Of The New World", our goal is to help in the clean-up
and rebuilding of this amazing City! In addition, many individuals
and Krewes of New Orleans have also expressed their interest in
participating in an "Adopt a Pyrate" program, wherein they
will "adopt" and play host to Pyrates coming in from distant ports.

Additionally the Pyrates coming to New Orleans who volunteer to work
may be accommodated with encampment space during Pyrate Week. It is
our hope that the volunteers donate their time and talents for three
8-hour days during Pyrate Week. The Pyrate Week organizers intend to
feed all the volunteer Pyrates at least once a day, every day for the
entire run of Pyrate Week; this will be a monumental task! Your
consideration and support is deeply appreciated. We expect that
expenses should be nominal - in that, the individuals and Krewes of
New Orleans are of a very generous nature and have a good deal of
resources.

Transportation to and from New Orleans will be up to the individuals
who intend to come and participate in Pyrate Week.

There will be opportunities for local Artists, Pyrate Artisans and
Merchants to exhibit and sell during Pyrate Week at a number of
locations throughout the French Quarter and New Orleans.

The many activities scheduled for Pyrate Week include:
Dutch Pyrate Dining in the French Quarter, Rogue Pyrate's Revel,
Haunted Pub Crawl and Tour. Opportunities for tours of Lafayette
Cemetery No. 1 (as well as some likely volunteering here), Barataria
Swamp tours, Plantation tour, Kids Pyrate Gathering in Jackson
Square, Historical Pyrate Encampments, Sword & Black Powder
demonstrations, Ship to Shore Cannon battle, Pyrate Blanket Trade,
Pyrate Parade, Charity Auction, Bloke and Wench Auction and the
Premier Edition of the 2009 Pyrate Olympic Games!

We do hope that you will be a part of the Pyratical Adventures at
NOLA Pyrate Week in New Orleans, 2009! If you can't make it, we look
forward to seeing you next year. Tell all your friends about this
fantastic opportunity and history making event.

Lusty Winds Mates, see you in New Orleans!

Thank you. That sounds familiar. Is it on Bourbon Street? I think I remember seeing it when we were there the past two years, but I don't think we went in. We did go into a voodoo type store, but I don't remember it's name.

Wow -- you grew up in the French Quarter. That must have been in interesting youth.

Does the Voodoo Cafe have a website? We are looking to have a 15th Anniversary Celebration Party for No Quarter Given during Pyrate Week, and I'm checking out venues.

Pyrate Week is not connected at all with Pyrate Con.

Pyrate Week was started up by several local New Orleans pirates who wanted a pirate event in New Orleans where locals were involved, and it gave back to the community.

Plans are still being formulated, and lots of details are being worked out. Keep an eye on the website: www.pyrateweek.com

There is not a fee for attending per se. Some of the Individual events (like the ball) will have a fee. Others will be free for any to attend. They are trying to do everything on the cheap. No one is trying to make a buck on this event. There will be a Dutch Dining Pyrate Feast -- this means everyone comes and orders off the menu, pays for their own meal, then enjoys the festivities and entertainment with their fellow pirates.

There will be two camping areas set up. One for historical pirates (crews, and individual freebooters), most likely at the Chalmette NHP, site of the Battle of New Orleans. Those pirates not so historically oriented (fantasy pirates, Hollywood pirates, etc) will have another camp to set up at closer to the French Quarter.

Campers will be asked to give volunteer hours in trade for camping privileges. Those camping at the historical camp can either spend their volunteer hours giving demos, standing watch, or cooking, that kind of thing. The camp will be open to the public to come visit throughout the week.

Those staying at the other camp can give their hours helping out in the community -- in the Lower Ninth Ward especially.

They are asking for three 8-hour days of volunteering, in trade for 9 days of camping and partying at night.

There will be a camping deposit, something like $50, to reserve your camping space. This you will get back in the way of food vouchers for meals at the camp. Details are still being worked out on this.

If you don't want to camp, there will be hostels and bed 'n breakfasts booked for pirates.

I think it's going to be a history making event, as well as a blast. Hope a lot of you can make it.
