We're discussing a Xmas party, but, instead, how about Our own Corsair's/Pirate New Years' Eve Party? We can avoid the 'presents' questions/problems, not worry about family obligations, and just throw a blast that 'out of towners' could possibly make, whereas around Xmas is problematic for them.
